Year 7-8 Play Great Expectations

At the end of the Lent term, Year 8 and 7 performed ‘Great Expectations’ by Charles Dickens over three nights. What a triumph! And what an effort! A long, complex play, it was decided at the last moment not to have an intermission in order to cut the running time – in the event, it lasted two and a half hours! The amount of lines learnt, especially by the main characters, was truly impressive, as was the standard of acting. Period costume brought the characters alive, and the stage, split between the blacksmith’s cottage and Miss Havisham’s great dining room, was enhanced by realistic props and effective lighting. Thanks to all the children for their commitment to the project, to Mrs Sinclair-Kemp for costumes, Mr Newbery for staging and props, and Mr Hodson for lighting – a great team effort, as always!
