Year 7 National Race to the Line – Rocket Car Day

Year 7 National Race to the Line – Rocket Car Day

SCS hosted the first round of the National Rocket Car Competition and blasted straight into 11th place out of 700 teams on the National Leader board. Year 7 pupils have been working in teams to model and construct their rocket cars for the last month during their DT lessons.

Last Thursday two members of the RAF came to the school to setup the track and run the event. The children had produced 10 rocket cars and fired them down the school drive in turn. First to be fired was the ‘IndieAnna’ rocket car which smashed itself spectacularly into the timing gates and exploded into pieces! Fortunately, Mr Reynolds worked his magic and hot-glued it back together! Luckily there were no further incidents and the remaining cars clocked amazing speeds from 39 to 67 MPH! We are hoping to get at least one team into the regional finals in April at RAF Odiham.

Our current positions on the UK Leaderboard: 11th place: Blood Bolt (SCS) 67.1 MPH, 12th place: LA Wheelz (SCS) 63.1 MPH, 13th place: Wings of the Wind (SCS) 62.4

STOP PRESS – BLOODBOLT & LAWHEELZ ARE THROUGH TO THE NEXT ROUND!!!
