Year 3 and 4 visit the Roald Dahl Museum

Year 3 s and 4s ventured to Great Misenden to visit the RD Museum. The 3s went to the museum whilst the 4s explored the village and then we switched at lunchtime. On the Village trail we saw the garage which was the inspiration for the garage in Danny the Champion of the World. We saw Matilda’s library and even visited Roald’s grave.

In the museum, we learnt much about the author’s life and many little snippets that were the obvious beginnings for many of his much-loved books. One being that whilst at Repton he was asked to regularly taste-test 12 bars of chocolate for Cadbury’s. Can you guess which book this would have planted seeds in his mind to write?

The children attempted to create their own characters using methods which Mr Dahl used himself. Some of his characters developed over 20 years! So don’t throw away any of your ideas! There’s always space for more character ideas.
