News from the Pre-Prep

Nursery have been exploring the different textures and smells of herbs as part of their senses topic.

Reception had a special visitor to the classroom this week – KUBO the robot. We used some special ‘tag tiles’ to practise early coding skills as part of our technology curriculum. The children loved navigating the robot around a map and were excellent as trying new things when he did not go where they wanted!

It has been a busy week in Year 1 with a couple of highlights being their class assembly about light and dark. The children all spoke beautifully about what they had been learning and linked their ideas to a story that they had read about a cat called 'Slinky Malinki'. The children gave thoughtful ideas about how they could all bring warmth and light to other people's lives and how other people can be their 'sunshine'.

As part of our science topic on our five senses Year 1 have been learning about the sense of taste. There were some brilliant photo opportunities as the children studied each others taste buds and as their taste buds were tingled by tasting different foods to work out whether they were sour, salty, bitter or sweet. It was fascinating to see which taste each child preferred. The most popular being sweet and the least popular being bitter! A surprising number of children preferred a sour taste.

Year 2 have been busy continuing to learn about multiplication arrays and applying multiplication sentences to real life scenarios. In English they have written their own versions of 'The Sea' by John Foster, focusing on using fantastic adjectives. They have also been looking at the local area and learnt about the 5 rivers in Salisbury, using a map to locate them and name them. In DT they have been to the prep DT room and have been making boats as part of their on going land and sea topic.
