DT Cathedral Stone

Year 8 have received pieces of authentic Salisbury Cathedral stone to shape into bases for their metal sculptures which they have been making in DT. The limestone was mined in Chilmark and crafted by stonemasons in the Cathedral close 800 years ago. The Cathedral’s stonemasons have recently removed the stone from the East face as part of their restoration work. The stone has sat untouched on the top of the Cathedral for some 800 years. Our children will now use hand chisels to make their own marks on these special stones. Their finished sculptures will make a lovely memento of their time singing and worshiping at school and in the Cathedral.
