Choristers prepare for Christmas

The Choristers always work incredibly hard but Advent season and Christmas is particularly busy for them with many extra commitments, rehearsals and concerts. Many of them working non-stop since Darkness to Light, they will have a few days break next week before working through until through until Christmas day.

Last week, on Wednesday and Thursday, the girls and boys have been sang Carol Services for tour groups visiting the Cathedral and on Tuesday afternoon, our ten probationers (Tilly, Alice, Emma W, Isabel, Mary, Rosie B, Rory, Jack, Theo, and Kavan) continued in their relationship with BBC South with a recording of Christmas Carol, “Away in a Manger” in the cathedral. The first instalments of the programmes featuring our probationers in their first year will air soon.

Last Sunday evening, Annenora was appointed as the Chorister Bishop and delivered a sermon to the congregation. She was attended by students and choristers (Sammy O’B, Anna S, Beatriz O, Leah G, Thomas Arbon V, Archie B, Lili B, and India V). There was a reception with cake following.

Zerlina Ross and Archie Beardsell were the featured soloists in the penultimate number with the combined choirs featured in the production of “The Light” at the Cathedral.

They began Friday through Monday with extra rehearsals, Evensong, Sunday services, a performance of Handel’s Messiah on Saturday, and a trip to Birmingham Symphony Hall today (Monday) before they have a few days off and return next Friday (21st) for more rehearsals and special services; Carols in the Cathedral, the Family service and Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve through to Christmas Day Eucharist. They will have a great family luncheon in the BSR on Christmas Day before singing Evensong and going home for a much needed break.
