Year 2 explore the sea at Bournemouth Oceanarium

It was a fresh day for Year 2 when they visited the Oceanarium in Bournemouth. Having discovered all about meadows and river habitats in the first part of the term our focus now turns to the sea. The children were filled with wonder by the shear variety of animals and their questions and answers demonstrated what enquiring minds they have. Having only just learnt in class about food chains, they were keen to find out what the animals ate as well as what they were eaten by! A session handling artefacts from shark jaws, teeth and eggs gave them a real understanding of the adaptions of these fascinating creatures. The children loved watching the penguins zooming through the water and jellyfish undulating and pulsating but the hi-light was the underwater tunnel providing close up experience of the sharks, rays and giant turtle. After a picnic in the park it was time to play on the beach with the glittering sea behind and finally an ice-cream before making our way home.
