The Memory Tree

A place for stories, gratitude, and growth

We are thrilled to unveil The Memory Tree — a beautiful, handcrafted copper espalier apple tree that will take pride of place in our new school garden. This bespoke sculpture will hold up to 250 engraved plaques in the shape of bronze apples or stainless steel birds, each one carrying a personal message, dedication, or memory.

By contributing to The Memory Tree, you’ll help grow something truly lasting. Every plaque purchased supports the creation of a working vegetable garden — a project with deep roots in our school’s history. This very site was once the Bishop’s Palace kitchen gardens, providing food for generations. Though no photographs remain, the layout still lingers. Today, the pre-prep building stands along what was once the garden path — still traced by the branches of an ancient espalier apple tree.

This new tree is both a tribute and a promise. It honours the past while offering a joyful, lasting way to mark the present — and, like its living predecessor, it will continue to grow with the school. Whether your plaque celebrates a child’s time at SCS, thanks a teacher, or commemorates a special moment, your message will become part of a shared story — a symbol of care, continuity, and community.

For those who wish to leave a larger legacy, up to ten handcrafted copper boulders will be placed beneath the tree. These offer a generous canvas for longer messages, family dedications, or logos — ideal for marking significant milestones or for organisations wishing to support the garden in a lasting way.
