Year 8 in action on the Purbeck coastline
A brilliant day for our Year 8s, seeing geography in action on the Purbeck coastline. We explored two contrasting approaches to coastal management: the active, defend the beach and cliffs at all cost at Branksome Beach in Bournemouth, versus the recent and more perhaps more controversial, "non active intervention" strategy used by the National Trust at Studland Bay.
Naturally, our learning was enhanced all the more with stints of beach football, sand castle building and fish & chips at the NT cafe at Knoll Beach.
Thank you to the National Trust and Bournemouth & Poole Council for their generous support in making it such a fascinating field trip.
