Year 8 Play - 39 Steps

What a romp! This year's Year 8 production of The 39 Steps was an utterly hilarious show from start to finish, packed with laughter, chaos, mystery and more than a few unexpected handcuffs!

Even more impressive was the fact that the children and staff put the entire production together in just five days. Learning lines, mastering comic timing, moving scenery and bringing such a fast-paced show to life in less than a week is no small feat. It was an incredible performance and a fantastic way for our Year 8s to finish the year. They were simply brilliant.

A special mention must go to Vinnie, who took on the demanding role of Richard Hannay. His portrayal was utterly superb, learning a huge number of lines from memory and delivering them with epic comic timing throughout. He carried the show magnificently and had the audience laughing from beginning to end.

Daisy and Emma, as the Clowns and Heavies, seemed to be constantly on stage, lugging scenery, rolly-pollying across the set and generally having a jolly good time. Their energy, commitment and comic antics kept the audience thoroughly entertained.

As the feisty and stylish leading lady, Pamela, Phoebe was fantastic. Accidentally finding herself handcuffed to Hannay for much of the adventure led to plenty of giggles both on and off the stage!
Carys brilliantly portrayed the mysterious and exotic secret agent, Annabella Schmidt, complete with a wonderfully thick foreign accent and excellent comic timing.

Kupa and Harriet shone as the Compere and Mr Memory in the Musical Hall, becoming the focal point of the show's exciting climax and helping to bring the story to its bonkers conclusion.
The phenomenal performances of Matilda and Alice J deserve special praise. Taking on multiple roles during the wonderfully chaotic train journey, they switched characters with impressive speed, skill and humour.
Alice G was a fantastic villain, delightfully devious throughout, while Kieran and George embraced their roles as the "ladies" and various other characters with great enthusiasm and plenty of laughs.

A special award for comedy must surely go to Rex, who played perhaps the funniest old man ever seen on the SCS stage! His performance had the audience in stitches.

Edward brought wonderful grumpiness to the role of Mr McGarrigle, whilst Rodrigo seemed to be everywhere at once, constantly appearing on stage in a variety of roles and situations.
Jayden impressed as the Inspector, expertly handcuffing Hannay and even climbing through windows in pursuit of justice!
Behind the scenes, enormous thanks must go to Freddy for his help backstage, ensuring everything ran smoothly. We are also incredibly grateful to Will and Jake for their excellent design and operation of the lighting and sound, helping to bring the production to life.

Finally, special thanks must go to Mrs Groome, Mr Halliday and Mr Conway for making it all happen. Their directing, organisation and support with lighting and sound were invaluable. Particular mention must be made of the unforgettable cameo appearances by Mr Halliday and Mr Conway - performances that will surely go down in the history of SCS and will not be forgotten any time soon!

What a way to end the year. The 39 Steps was funny, fast-paced and full of fun from beginning to end. Congratulations to everyone involved on a truly memorable production.
