Visit from Kate French MBE, Olympic Gold Medallist
Salisbury Cathedral School welcomed Kate French MBE, Olympic Gold Medallist in modern pentathlon, for an afternoon with the pupils on Friday 29 April 2022. Kate arrived in Great Britain kit and brought her Tokyo Olympic gold medal for the children to see and be photographed with.
After a Q&A with younger pupils - which revealed how Kate is superstitious and jumps and down on new riding kit before using it - Kate moved on to host practical laser shooting sessions with the older children. Her inspirational presentation covered mental preparation for sporting success as well as practical tips for modern pentathlon.
Clive Marriott, Head Master, commented: ‘We are so privileged to welcome Kate to Salisbury Cathedral School, who knows it may just inspire one of our pupils to go for gold at the Olympics one day too. They’ll certainly have a good understanding of the effort, resilience and dedication that they will need to make the amazing journey to represent Great Britain in the future’.
A long line of pupils waiting to have anything and everything signed by Kate rounded off her visit. Smiling children proudly carried off their shoes, hockey sticks and cricket bats – amongst other things - bearing Kate’s signature as a memento of the day.
