SCS U11s Somerset Cricket Tour

Twelve excited cricketers from Years 5 and 6 set off for Somerset last week for the second Salisbury Cathedral School Colts Cricket Tour, and what a wonderful few days it proved to be.

The tour began with a training session and lunch at King's Bruton before a thrilling T20 victory against Queen's College Prep in the afternoon. From there, the team travelled to Wellington Prep, whose fantastic generosity and hospitality made the tour possible.

Friday brought a blustery but brilliantly enjoyable morning at Brean Beach, one of the genuine highlights of the tour. The children completed an epic walk around the peninsula, exploring the old fortifications, playing beach games and tucking into toasties and chips. An afternoon pairs match against Wellington followed, with SCS again coming out on top and Tommy producing a star performance. The day ended with another delicious supper, watching a superb performance of Alice in Wonderland by Wellington's talented Year 6 pupils, and another fun evening in the comfort of the boarding house, complete with basketball, table tennis
and watching the World Cup. Each evening, the team also gathered together to reflect on their favourite and funniest moments, and on
what they had learnt from the day.

On Saturday morning, we returned to our own stunning setting at Salisbury Cathedral School for a final T20 against South Wilts U11As. It was terrific to see the tour team click straight back into cricketing mode and demonstrate just how much they had improved, producing another excellent performance and an impressive win against a strong South Wilts side. With picnics shared between innings and families gathered around the boundary, it was a lovely and fitting way to conclude the tour.

The trip was about much more than cricket. It provided opportunities to develop resilience, independence, organisation and teamwork, while crystallising friendships and creating memories that will last for many years to come. It has already become something that
younger pupils are aspiring to be part of in future years.
