Friends of SCS

The Friends is a parent-led body whose role is to support the school by organising social events and fund-raising for ‘extras’ that enhance the children’s experience of school life.

Events are usually fun for the children but also enable parents to meet each other.

The aim is to involve the whole school community, including the staff, in the varied activities, which make an enormous contribution to the special atmosphere of the school.

All parents automatically become Friends when their children join the school. If you would like to take a more active role or have a special skill to offer, then why not join the committee? Members aim to meet twice a term over dinner in the Head Master’s House. To become a member you simply have to express an interest in joining and be prepared to help with organising events.

Events

These are run by a group of volunteers (not necessarily committee members) and include both fund-raising initiatives and purely social events.

Highlights of the calendar include:

  • Autumn quiz night to welcome new parents
  • Christmas Fair in the Cloisters
  • St. Osmund’s Day fireworks and barbecue to celebrate the school’s founder
  • Summer Fete
  • Pimm’s tent at Sports Day
  • Summer disco for children

Charitable status

The Friends is a registered charity (no. 309484) and the money it raises goes to the school.

A fee of £15 per term is added to parent bills to cover the up-front cost of running events.

Annually we make a donation to charity, we are supporting the Salisbury based charity 'Children's Chance' which pays for extras such as swimming, musical instrument lessons for children whose families would normally be unable to do so.

Donations to the school

Funds raised allow the Friends to enhance the school environment for the benefit of the children.

In recent years, a diverse range of projects have been supported including:

  • Chrome books for all children in Years 6-8
  • Pre-Prep play equipment
  • Early Years cooking equipment
  • New covers for the school swimming pool
  • Football goal posts
  • Willow art workshops for Year 8 leavers and Pre-Prep
