Boarding principles and practice
Boarding at Salisbury Cathedral School is varied and diverse. The Old School House is made up of children from a range of different backgrounds and with individual needs. Boarding at Salisbury Cathedral School is based on the following principles:
- The personal development of the whole child during their time boarding: spiritual, emotional, physical, cultural, social and moral.
- Salisbury Cathedral School is an open and trusting school; boarding is based upon mutual respect and the communication of values. Boarders have the right to work, play and relax free from abuse, intimidation or harassment, teasing or bullying.
- An atmosphere of acceptance, openness and trust and an environment where teasing, harassment and bullying should not develop.
- Equality of opportunity and respect for all boarders, regardless of ethnicity, culture, gender, sexuality or disability.
- Communication with parents as an essential part of the support and development of boarders.
- An environment where respect and acceptance of others will allow the children to develop skills of leadership and teamwork.
- Demonstrating an open and trusting ethos in which each boarder feels able to approach any member of staff, confident in the knowledge that they will be treated fairly and respected.
- Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of each boarder by providing an environment that is free from physical hazards and dangers, that is comfortable and suited to the needs of the boarders, and that provides appropriate levels of privacy.”
