Sport
Sport is a central part of pupils' lives at SCS. The Games and PE programme is well-balanced, varied and challenging and ensures that all children are encouraged to enjoy a range of team and individual sports. Our aims are simple; to fully develop all pupils' individual skills, their knowledge of rules, their understanding of tactics and their ability to work as part of a team.

Teaching
Lessons are carefully timetabled to ensure that all children in the school receive dedicated coaching from our specialist games staff. This also extends into the pre-prep, where children in Years 1 and 2 have two lessons a week with the Head of Boys' Games. Children in the Prep school have four lessons a week of Games/PE with extra team practices and optional clubs taking place at lunchtimes and after school.
Fixtures
Our fixture list is thorough, with teams fielded from Under 8B right through to 1st team level. Children in Years 3 and 4 play their fixtures on a Tuesday afternoon and Years 5 to 8 on a Wednesday afternoon. This split again allows us to make the very best use of our specialist staff, with, for example, the 1st XV rugby coach also taking the Under 8's for their fixtures. A good number of fixtures also take place on Saturdays. 'A' teams are picked on merit and achieve good standards (See the separate Boys' Sport and Girls' Sport pages for details of recent achievements). Participation is also very important, however, and we endeavour to provide as many fixtures as possible in order to ensure that all our pupils have the opportunity to represent the school.
Philosophy
We strongly feel that a lifelong interest in sport will be of great benefit to all our pupils, helping to develop confidence, self-esteem and social skills in addition to providing health benefits .Yes, we believe in competitive sport and encourage our teams to perform to the best of their abilities but good sportsmanship and, above all, enjoyment are highly valued here as we aim to instil a love of sport which will last far beyond the boundaries of the school.
