Salisbury Cathedral School Announces New Director of Music

Salisbury Cathedral School is delighted to announce the appointment of Susie Lamb as the new Director of Music. She succeeds Ian Wicks who has moved to Durham to become Headmaster of Durham Cathedral School.

Susie is a familiar face at Salisbury Cathedral School where she has been a music teacher for nearly 10 years teaching the piano and class music lessons, and running several choirs. During the Lent Term 2017 Susie covered for Ian Wicks, taking on the role of assistant Director of Music when Iain took a sabbatical to be the organist at Salisbury Cathedral, so she is well- aware of what the job requires.

Speaking after her appointment, Susie said, “I am incredibly excited about working in a place I love, surrounded by fabulous children and teachers who are so passionate about their work.” The Headmaster, Clive Marriott said, “Susie has the right balance of continuity and change whilst ensuring the children are at the centre of every endeavour.”

Originally from Salisbury, Susie read music at Manchester University and then gained her PGCE at Cambridge University. Her working life has prepared her well for the role as prior to working at Salisbury Cathedral School Susie was at Christ Church Cathedral School, Oxford before which she was Director of Music at Port Regis Prep School in Dorset. Her family also have strong family links to Salisbury Cathedral School as her great uncles, father and brothers were all educated at the school, and her uncles and brothers were Choristers.

In fact, Susie’s direct family are all musical too. Her husband Dom Price, is a keen violinist and singer, their two children, Rosie a chorister and Theo, are both talented young musicians playing the violin, piano and cello. Both Susie and Dom sing in Salisbury Cathedral Chamber Choir and in the semi-professional choir Sarum Voices, and along with her ‘day job’ Susie runs The Salisbury Cathedral Junior Choir which meet every Saturday.
Susie said: “From a young age I was immersed in choral life, so the opportunity to become the Director of Music at Salisbury Cathedral School is a dream come true. One of my aims is to increase the opportunity for music to be part of every child’s life – everyone can benefit from including music, whether instrumental or voice in their lives.”
