Year 6 Roman Food Workshops

Last week, pupils in Year 6 enjoyed making and tasting a variety of Roman-style dishes. They had been learning about food and dining customs in lessons before half term and then put some of this into practice.

Dishes created included two types of green bean salad with different cheeses and herbs or mustard sauce, glazed apricots in cumin and honey sauce, an anchovy paste dressing for chicken, Epityrium - an olive and mint relish, plus figs and pine kernels, stuffed vine leaves and a host of other treats. The stuffed dormice were, you'll be pleased to hear, pigs in blankets! They also enjoyed pomegranate juice and an apple and white grape blend.

Pupils threw themselves into making all these concoctions and most were keen to eat them afterwards. Many tried things which they hadn't previously and were pleasantly surprised by the results!
