Sculptures inspire imagination and creativity

The Year 2 classes couldn’t have wished for a wetter day as they drove off to Roche Court but the weather paled into insignificance as the children excitedly spied the amazing outdoor sculptures. The excellent Education Team led them around the park, discussing the diverse sculptures and their sculptors. The children’s questions and answers astounded us, as always, and they used the shelter of the trees and the indoor exhibition space to describe and sketch what they saw.

There were many favourites including Richard Long’s ‘Tame Buzzard Line,’ Laura Ford's pensive cats entitled ‘Days of Judgement’ and Fairhurst’s fabulous 'Gorilla', complete with mirror.

Following the visit, the children have discussed sculpture like experts, considering the properties of the materials used and the scale of each piece of art. We are looking forward to displaying their imaginative and descriptive written work very soon.
