Having fun sharing music

Our annual Music Festival is always a highlight in the school calendar and this year was no exception. We staged five simultaneous concerts from 9.30-1pm in which over 12 hours of music was heard throughout the Bishop’s Palace.

Each concert, made up of five-minute slots, was filled with every kind of music and performers. We heard children giving their very first performance through to professional parent musicians and everything in between. There are too many highlights to mention but some of the best moments were the ensembles that had been created by the children themselves and family groups which spanned the generations from grandparents to children.

There were some outstanding and moving performances at all levels and the whole morning was a superb showcase for our philosophy that music is for everyone. There was a hugely supportive atmosphere without a hint of competition.

With performers and audience making donations to play and listen, we were able to collect £413 for our chosen charity, Heads Together. This charity, which supports awareness of mental health, was the perfect partner for this morning as playing and singing music does make us all feel better about the way we approach life. Thank you to everyone who took part: I certainly cannot wait for next year!
