Year 6 Trip to Salisbury Playhouse

 On Thursday 26th April, we went to Salisbury Playhouse to see the new musical adaptation of ‘Moonfleet.’ We had all enjoyed reading the book in class and wondered how they would change certain key scenes. However, we were all very excited to finally see the musical. The book was originally written in 1898 by J. Meade Falkner.

Miss Whittock had warned us that there would be some differences, such as that one of the male characters was to become female, and we wondered how different people in the production would feel because of that. Our favourite character was Ratsey, the grave-inscriber, smuggler and guard.

The songs were brilliant, and Blackbeard was one of the highlights, narrating throughout the play. The songs they chose suited each actor’s vocal strengths.
Our favourite song was ‘The moons are rising’; the first part was sung by Ratsey in the church and Blackbeard on the ship.

The special effects and set were impressive and used to their advantage. In the spectacular penultimate scene, the way the floorboards were lifted up was particularly memorable. Overall, it was a production that all of Y6 enjoyed greatly!
