New apprentice-style competition kicks off!

The five teams competing in Salisbury Cathedral School’s new SCS Junior Entrepreneur initiative, sponsored by Trethowns, set up their stalls at the annual school fete on Friday. All pupils involved were working to win the coveted title of SCS Junior Entrepreneurs 2017 and a day’s go-karting at Thruxton.

Pupils, parents, friends and families who attended this year’s fete were tempted by five competing business ventures:

• The H20 team provided an on-site car washing service
• Team Titans offered an array of traditional fete games such as ‘Guess how many sweets’
• Splat offered the chance to splat a fellow pupil or teacher with a plate of whipped cream
• Smoothie Pop provided a nutritious alternative to fizzy drinks for visitors seeking refreshment
• Blue Elephant sold homemade lemonade and the chance to decorate your own cupcake

The exciting competition added a new professional element to the much-loved annual school fete, held in the gardens of the historic Bishop’s Palace.

With judging based on professionalism and teamwork as well as final profit, each team had to maintain professional standards throughout just in case a mystery shopper stopped by. ‘The annual summer fete is always a highlight of the school year,’ said Mr. Marriott, Headmaster, Salisbury Cathedral School. ‘And 2017 has been better than ever, thanks to the inaugural SCS Junior Entrepreneurs competition. Business was most certainly booming and we look forward to knowing which charity the winning team will choose to donate all profit from the activity to.’

The five teams will each prepare and present an overview of the activity in front of the judging panel on Wednesday 5 July 2017. The winning team will be announced following deliberation between the three official judges of the competition, namely:

• Andrew Mercer, Chairman of the Management Board & Partner, Trethowans
• Alex Hawker, Girls Love Fit, Founder
• Jonathan Hankey, JCB Garden Landscapes, Founder
