Year 7 Trip to Fishbourne Roman Palace

Despite having visited the site annually for more years than I care to count, I still come away each time in awe of the splendour of what the Romans created. It was the largest building outside of Italy and at its height would have housed over a hundred people. It was the ‘nerve-centre’ of southern England, home to King Togidubnus and a place of government and trade as well as a home.
Did you know that the Romans liked to have cobwebs in their kitchens? Well, now you do! They realised this was an efficient way of catching flies.
Year 7 had a super day, culminating in Charlotte and Beltran being chosen to dress up as brother and sister, children of the king. They thought this was rather splendid, but James was less impressed about being their slave…
