A Friday of festive fun, courtesy of the Friends of SCS

The spirit of Christmas was in the air last Friday as the Friends of SCS generously funded Christmas parties for pupils in both our Lower and Upper School sites.

The children arrived clutching pocket money to be spent on presents carefully chosen from the ‘Christmas Shopping Room’, which was bursting with donations from family and friends. Deputy Head Nick Hawker was delighted to witness the children’s excitement as they chose suitable gifts for grannies, grandpas, siblings and other family members. Parents and older siblings were at the ready to help children choose, wrap and label their offerings before dropping their pennies into a collection bucket. A big thank you to all the parents who kindly donated gifts.

As well as this, the day included visits from Father Christmas and a delicious Christmas lunch cooked by Nick and the rest of his catering team.

Magic Jack entertained children in the Lower School and was a huge success with magic tricks, balloon modelling and party games. Scott from The Science Theatre provided the entertainment to children on the Palace Campus, with a theme of ‘How to prepare for a trip to space’. His hour long show explained everything you need to know to be an astronaut! He talked about rockets, gravity, satellites and astronaut food as well as the challenges that astronauts train for. There were also plenty of experiments involving very large flames!

Proceeds from the Christmas Secret Shopping Sale will go to Salisbury District Hospital’s Stars Appeal. The charity was chosen by the children when they were reminded that many children spend long periods in hospital, sometimes including Christmas, due to illness. The Friends are delighted to say that they raised over £400 for the Appeal.
