Christmas Fair showcases local independent traders

Last Saturday the Cathedral cloisters were once again the venue for our fabulous Christmas Fair run by the Friends of Salisbury Cathedral School.

A record forty local traders attended the fair selling everything from hand-made and hand-painted woodcraft to unique pottery pieces, personalised bags made from sail cloth to stunning silver jewellery, home-made liqueurs and pickles to unique and interesting retro items. The Friends kept traders warm with hot soup and rolls and visitors entered the festive spirit drinking mulled wine while they looked to get a head-start on their Christmas shopping.

Pleasingly, the profit this year was in the region of £3,600, some of which will go towards funding a Gap year at SCS for a student from Union High School in Graaf-Reinet, South Africa who would not otherwise be able to afford such an opportunity.

The Christmas Fair is a great community event and fundraiser, so a big thank you goes to the Friends committee headed by Jojo Orange and other volunteers who worked very hard to make the fair a success as well as to the fabulous independent traders who give the event its unique appeal.
