Science

Science has a high profile at Salisbury Cathedral School – we see it as an important subject with huge relevance to the technological age that we live in.

Our main aim is to instil a true love of the subject through inspiring lessons. We make the learning as practical as possible, ensuring that children conduct experiments for themselves in our purpose-built laboratory. By doing this, they are able to make their own observations and draw conclusions which they can then present in numerous ways. As well as the practical aspect of Science, we place strong emphasis on thinking skills which can then be applied not only in Science but across the curriculum.

We feel it is important to children that Science is seen as relevant. To do this, we personalise learning by discussing real life situations that have affected the children and the teachers. For example, our Head of Science’s tales about his grandfather’s inventions are legendary, particularly those that inflicted electric shocks on his grandson!
