Life Skills

The purpose of Life Skills is to help our pupils acquire the knowledge, understanding skills and strategies required to live healthy, safe, productive, capable, responsible and balanced lives. Children learn to reflect on and clarify their own attitudes, exploring the complex and sometimes conflicting range of values and attitudes they encounter, both now and in the future.

Our approach at SCS contributes to personal development by helping children to build their confidence, resilience and self-esteem to identify and manage risk - making informed choices and understanding what influences their decisions. It enables them to recognise, accept and shape their identities, understand and accommodate difference and change, manage emotions and communicate constructively in a variety of settings. Developing empathy and the ability to work with others helps pupils to form and maintain good relationships - essential skills for future employability and a happy, fulfilled life.

The Life Skills programme is delivered by Form Tutors with the support from outside agencies and the school nurse.
