Sport

Sport is an integral part of school life at Salisbury Cathedral School. The school has 27 acres of land, which consists of an all-weather Astroturf, a recently refurbished outdoor swimming pool, indoor gymnasium, three cricket pitches, five rugby pitches and a 200m athletics track. The philosophy of the sports department is to provide an environment in which we allow children to be creative, aware, resilient, make decisions and develop self-discipline. This is in line with the School values where pupils can earn house points for resilience, teamwork, leadership, creativity, self-discipline and discovery.

All pupils are exposed to specialist coaching and this begins as early as nursery. Pupils in year 3 to 8 are given the opportunity to represent the school in matches at the appropriate level. Games and PE Programmes are well balanced, varied and challenging and ensure that children are encouraged to enjoy a range of sports such as Athletics, Biathlons, Cricket, Cross-country, Football, Hockey, Invasion Games, Netball, Rugby, Softball, Swimming and Zonal Ball. The sports fixtures list is comprehensive and looks to include every child in a sporting fixture at least three times a term.

Pupils are encouraged to achieve success both regionally and nationally and we enter all the prestigious Independent Association Prep School tournaments. Numerous pupils play sport at county level and we have a strong history of pupils achieving sport scholarships at secondary schools.

This year our senior teams are going on a sports tour to Holland and this will be a regular event and provide pupils at the end of their prep school career an opportunity to experience a wonderful sporting trip. The department is also going to run sport scholarships and build links within the community through primary outreach to all the local schools. It is an exciting time for SCS sport.
