Sport

Sport is an integral part of life at SCS and children begin lessons with specialised Games/PE staff from as early as their reception year. Throughout their Pre-Prep years, girls and boys are slowly introduced to the sports on offer to them in Year 3 so that they are not totally new to these sports when they start in the Prep school.

In their Prep school years, pupils enjoy some form of sport four days a week: two one-hour games lessons, a one-hour PE lesson and a fixture day. Fixtures take place on Tuesday afternoons for Years 3 – 4 and on Wednesday afternoons for Years 5 – 8. Although we are not a Saturday school, there are weekend fixtures each term but these are not every week.

Our fixture list is extensive for all year groups and it is our policy that every pupil in the school play at least four fixtures each term. Team selection is done on ability, as mixed ability teams are not the best way of getting the most out of the pupils. Each team will be assigned a coach for the season and these coaches will be rotated each term allowing for different groups to have the experience of being taught by different people for each sport.

We believe in competitive sport and encourage our teams to perform to the best of their abilities but good sportsmanship and, above all, enjoyment are highly valued here. We aim to instill a love of sport that will last far beyond the boundaries of this school and hope that past pupils will look back on their early sporting days with fond and happy memories.
