Structure of the Day

8:30am – 8:45am
Early Years children are welcomed into class where they play and meet with their teachers and friends. Parents are welcome in the classroom to settle their child before leaving. Our waving window is an important place for saying ‘Goodbye”.  Years 1 & 2 teachers also encourage parents to visit the classroom and settle their children before registration.

8:45am - 9:00am
Registration, sharing news and talking about the day ahead.

Assembly – Our assemblies are varied. Each week, we share an assembly with the Prep school, have our own Pre-Prep ‘celebration’ assembly, visit the school chapel for a special service and attend the family Cathedral assembly on a Friday to which parents are invited each week.

9:30am - 10:30am
Classroom activities. Children may be learning in/outside, working directly with an adult or independently involved in ‘child-led’ activities.

Snack time. We provide a healthy daily snack and drink (for example fresh fruit, homemade flapjack, dried fruit, vegetable sticks and hummus, biscuits)

Morning play.  The Nursery play in the garden, sometimes joined by older children from the Prep school. The Reception children join the rest of the school at the 'Bark Park’. Once a week, we have 'upstairs play' when the whole Pre-Prep have an opportunity to play in the Nursery garden.

Classroom activities as before.

Lunch in the Undercroft. All our children have a hot, homemade lunch with pudding and fresh fruit every day. Staff are on duty to help with good choices and reinforcing table manners.

12:45pm – 1:15pm
Outdoor play, either in the garden or at the Bark Park.

1:15pm Rest/Reading time
It is a very busy school day. We feel it is important for our youngest children to have some ’space’ in their day. During this time they are given a blanket and pillow in a place where they are free to relax, snooze if necessary, or contemplate their day so far.  Gentle, classical music is played to calm them.  The older children have some quiet reading time with our staff.

Afternoon registration and input for the afternoon activities.

Afternoon activities for the Early Years include art & craft, gardening and nature activities, role-play, outdoor play, music, drama, IT, French, walks. Years 1 and 2 continue with their timetabled lessons.
