Pre-prep (3-7 years)
Children are welcomed into Ladybirds, our foundation stage Nursery class from two and a half years of age and remain in Pre-Prep until the end of Year 2. Rooms are vibrant and enhance our pupils learning opportunities. Numeracy and Literacy are studied most mornings, whilst the afternoons are spent investigating topics through History, Geography, Science, Art and DT. Some specialist teaching takes place at this stage in Ballet, Games, Music and French. The pastoral care and links with parents begin in the Nursery and are outstanding throughout the school. In addition to leading the Cathedral assembly and short chapel service each week, our school Chaplain also teaches RS to children throughout Pre-Prep.
The children are taught public speaking through class assemblies and drama, from which they gain self confidence and the ability to perform in front of a group. There are plenty of opportunities to develop musically through percussion, recorders, singing, taster music classes (called music circus) or specialist instrument lessons.
Outside, there is a variety of play equipment in an enclosed, secure play area whilst the playing fields, trees and adventure playground provide a spacious and stimulating environment in which to explore further. The astroturf and gymnasium offer good alternatives in bad weather.
At the end of Year 2 our pupils move into the Prep school with a strong foundation in reading, writing and maths, confident and happy, well prepared for the next stage in their education at The Cathedral School.
