Year 7 Classics Trip to Bath
Do you know the origin of the word SPA? Well, it comes from the Latin SANUS PER AQUAM - Health Through Water - just one of the host of interesting facts and figures which Year 7 discovered when they visited the Roman Baths on Thursday. They had a very enjoyable visit which began with an unusually good talk and workshop in the education rooms. Here they looked in detail at images of tombstones which had been found at Aqua Sulis (Bath) and other parts of Britian, and translated the inscriptions. They learnt much about the social and cultural importance of the Bath House and then examined a range of artefacts. From there, we progressed to the actual baths where we had an audio tour and were able to walk around at our own pace, stopping for longer at the parts which interested us most. It was amazing to feel the heat rising (even on a cold March day!) from the Great Bath, and the environmentally-conscious among us were delighted to learn that this heat is now channelled and put to good use!
Overall, a very enjoyable and informative trip which was rounded off nicely by a quick visit to the fudge shop located opposite!
