Year 6 visit Roman Villa
Year 6 visited Rockbourne Roman Villa where they had a talk and then investigated aspects of Roman life inside their museum. From here, the children progressed to two activities. They looked at the ruins of the villa in detail and tried to make judgements about different parts of the building based on their observations and the extant remains. They were amazed to see the hypercaust pipes still intact in one part of the villa and enjoyed imagining relaxing in the plunge pool! Although the remains are modest, the children found this the most interesting part of the trip and it really brought the idea of Romans in the locality to life. The final part of the morning consisted of making some rubbings of a Roman decoration, looking and at and drawing specimens from archaelogical finds and having a competition to make the prettiest table-top mosaic.
