Year 5 Visit The American Museum
On Monday 12th October, Year 5, as part of their history curriculum, spent an exciting day at The American Museum. The weather was beautiful and the surrounding scenery was breathtaking. The Museum has some very knowledgeable guides who organized excellent activities for the children. They started with a tour of the Museum and the children gazed in wonder at the many varied Native American displays. The displays of the many beautiful artifacts, including intricate beadwork and Navaho jewellery were fascinating.
The children were then fortunate enough to handle, draw and discuss native artifacts, like masks, arrows, buffalo horn cups, inuit fishing rods for use on ice, and querns for grinding corn. Alex and Flavia were invited to try on the native dress of the plains squaw and chief, the role play was completed with a baby in papoose on a cradle board!
The day finished with the obligatory and exciting visit to the Museum shop!
