U13 and U11 Cross Country for Boys and Girls, Overall Winners

The St. Francis course is, firstly, cold but, secondly, extremely hilly. A walk
through for the course allowed the team to map out their running plan
and see the course beforehand. 12 schools turned up to compete in the
cross –country with about 50 runners in each group. The U13 girls led the
way with Isabella just missing out on a medal position coming 4th. Close
behind was Alana in 7th, India in 8th and Pippa came 12th. This resulted in
the girls coming 2nd in their group. The U13 boys followed suit and William
C-E crossed the line first out of our boys in 12th position
followed by Mungo, Tuomas and Harry G. The U13s came 3rd overall
in the age group. The U11 girls took an early lead, with Ginny and Isobel
leading the field of 40 girls up the first hill. Unfortunately, they were
caught by Leaden Hall , but Ginny chased them all the way into 3rd position
and took home a medal. Isobel took 15th, Gabby 16th and Livvie kept going
in 30th position. The score was low enough to take the 3rd position in the
age group.
George N led the U11 boys through the first phase of the course
and fought to maintain his position. Churned up, muddy hills slowed him
down and he crossed the line in 6th place closely followed by Alfie in 7th,
Charley and Olli. Overall the U11s came 4th. We sat patiently in St.
Francis’ sports hall waiting to hear the overall result for each of the 4
groups. We were certainly not expecting the outcome as we only had one
medal. Fortunately, we had 16 excellent runners who kept our positions
low and thus resulted in us coming 1st overall! I am so proud of each and
every one of them. It is so rewarding to take home a medal plate and have
our names engraved as the 2012 St. Francis Cross-Country winners! Well
done to everybody and thank you to the parents and grandma who came
to support.
