New Boy Choristers are welcomed into the Cathedral Choir
On Saturday 8th October 2011 four new choristers were welcomed into the choir in a ceremony at Evensong.
Henry Foster, Oliver Harding, George Jefferson, George Nicholson and Monty Westall were made full choristers after spending the past year as probationers in the choir. During the ceremony they were presented to the Dean of Salisbury, The Very Revd June Osborne who asked them if they wished to become choristers. The boys were then clothed in the full robes of a boy chorister which included the white surplice for the first time.
Also at Evensong, four Year 8 choristers were promoted to positions of responsibility within the Boy’s Choir. Freddie Foster was appointed Bishop’s Chorister, Finnbar Blakey, Vestry Monitor, Jack Coville Wright and Sebastian Halls were appointed Turners.
Following Evensong there was the traditional bumping ceremony where each new chorister has his head bumped against an ancient stone in the North Quire Aisle.
Finally there was a celebratory cake to cut in the BSR surrounded by family and friends.
