Friends of SCS Summer Fete Raises £3,000

I am writing to thank everyone who contributed to make the school fete such a happy and successful day on Saturday. The Friends Committee has been working to make fete day a day that connects the school on all levels and involves and includes everyone. For the first time this year we had a Faith Stand, quite apposite considering we are after all a Cathedral school. Also new this year was the Art Department installation. Our music Department was well represented and we were delightfully entertained throughout the warm, sunny afternoon as the Pimms and the music flowed nicely. Our victualing department grew once again, this time healthily diversifying into fruit smoothies and milk shakes.

This year we had the pleasure of sharing the day with the Old Boys, the Salisbury Cathedral School Association and their almost two hundred year old tradition. They were very pleased to see the continuing success of the school fete and shared with us some memories from the fetes of yesteryear and I do believe a few old ideas too, many which still remain legal to this day, and which may find their way back into future fetes!

It is always the children's stalls that fascinate and delight me the most though, so much earnest creativity manifests itself as our fledgling entrepreneurs and inventors learn hands on skills backed up by devoted parents who take the time in their lives to put their very best efforts into creating something that is a blessing to everyone attending.  An omnipresence of cake added a seal of authenticity to the day, much behind the scenes work goes into this fundamental of activities and e-mails circulated busily on the Friday ensuring that every last sultana was in it's correct place.

We are most grateful to the Army Air Corps for adding to the day's excitement by flying in with a Lynx helicopter, the children flocked to the aircraft to scramble over it and fiddle with everything inside under the watchful eye of the Pilot, Captain Nick Sharpe.
The finale was of course the Grand draw, grand indeed and I must especially mention and thank Sue Bray for her outstanding contribution here as the new Friend's Committee Prizes Manager. A workaholic by profession, she saw to it that we were treated to a feast of prizes that saw winners going home with anything from a 'box full of Lavender' to some lucky year five pupil winning a Spa Day for two complete with mud treatment. It was gently explained to them that this wasn't an alternative to Clown About, very sorry, they hadn't won the iPod Touch and for their own safety mum would be confiscating the particular prize in question.

May I send my grateful thanks and appreciation to everyone who; donated prizes and goods, parents, staff, 'Gaps' and pupils who helped with the all preparation, the work on the day and clearing away afterwards, all stall holders including those with their back up teams of mums and dads, our wonderful musicians, Mrs Pickett and her hard working team of staff, my fellow colleagues on the Friends Committee and last but not least you for coming along and supporting us so wonderfully well.

Mr Fletcher will be slaving away over a hot abacus across the road in Crown Chambers as we speak and once Brinks Mat have totted up the coinage our totaliser machine will produce a figure for how much we have raised in aid of those extra and sought after items for our school.

Thank you everyone,
